Achieving Mindfulness and Reducing Stress

Last month we discussed stress and how it is a prevalent part of everyday life. We provided scientific research to define stress and included how helpful it can be to eat energizing foods and increase the omega-3s in your diet. This month we are back with three more ways to help cope with stress!

Chronic Stressors

Like most things in life, stress is helpful in small amounts but becomes hurtful when you get too much of it. Problems arise when people experience more than a natural amount of stress. You are experiencing normal stress when it arises from specific situations and it is short lived. If your stress is long-term and continues over extended periods of time it is chronic stress. When stress becomes chronic it begins to affect your overall health causing headache, fatigue, difficulty sleeping and mental health problems. Luckily, there are many different methods that can be implemented into your life to help manage stress.

Exercise

One of the best ways to manage stress is by moving your body. Physical activity is proven to both improve mental health and reduce stress. Exercising releases endorphins into your body that boost your mood. It is extremely beneficial to take physically active breaks from daily life as they have been proven to enhance mental concentration and decrease fatigue. Getting yourself in the right state of mind will help you be able to not only manage your stress better, but reduce it. If exercise is something that is hard for you, don't be afraid to take it slow. Walking is a great form of exercise and can be less daunting than other options if you are just starting out with daily exercise. There are so many different forms of exercise out there so try a few and find one that you love! As you make daily physical activity a regular part of your routine, you will also see improvements in your quality of sleep.

Sleep

Getting a good night's rest will help almost every area of your well being. Sleep is a great time for your brain to rest from a day full of activities and stress. We also recommend trying out our Valerian Blend to help naturally improve your sleep quality. As an added bonus, it works to decrease anxiety. Sleeping is vital to human function as it recharges you for the next day, restoring your body both physically and cognitively. Getting enough sleep is related to lower stress, a better attitude, and higher performance in all areas of life.

Relaxation Techniques

There are many different methods to relax both your mind and body. A few different options include breathing exercises, yoga, meditation or even tai chi. Each of these activities slow your breathing, induce relaxation and calmness, and ultimately reduce stress. Meditation sessions can help you with personalized guided breathwork, movement, meditation, and spiritual psychology. Many benefits can also be seen from focusing on mindfulness. Mindfulness refers to paying complete attention to your thoughts and feelings at the present moment without thinking about the past or future. If you’re looking for something to help you naturally achieve mindfulness you can try our Herbal Calm blend. Through mindfulness you train your brain to focus completely on one thing, which relaxes your body and mind.

Stress will always be around, but it’s how you deal with it that is important! What types of stress relieving techniques and activities are you fond of? Life is much better when you live with ENERGI!
